About BAROLI
BAROLI is made by two.
We are a married couple. We met in Prague, a city that gradually became an important part of our life and our work together.
We paint together. Each of us brings our own ideas, a different eye and different intentions, and in the end they take one shared form.
Abstract painting suits us precisely because it does not have to depict anything in particular. It lets us work with colour, shape and structure without deciding in advance what the finished painting is meant to show.
Some works have their story from the very beginning. For others, the title arrives only once the painting is finished.
We do not try to tell the viewer what to feel. What matters to us is to make a painting that still holds our own interest long after it is done.
Today, paintings are the heart of BAROLI. But our work is not limited to painting. We are also drawn to wood, furniture and other objects that we design and make ourselves.
BAROLI is the name under which these different interests meet.
Not everything about us needs to be written here. Some stories we would rather keep for meeting in person.
Beyond the canvas.
Painting is not the only thing we do.
We also enjoy designing and making objects for our own home. We like solid wood, simple construction, bold proportions and materials that are interesting to look at in their own right.
A painting can leave its meaning open. A bed or a table also has to work well.
It is a different kind of work, but both belong to what we make together.
A solid-wood bed
Our own design, built by us
We designed and built the bed for our own home. Its basis is a set of heavy timber beams, roughly twenty centimetres across, which define its whole appearance.
We did not try to hide the construction or add decoration for its own sake. We wanted a simple, solid piece of furniture in which the wood itself is the point.
It is one of the things that show our interests do not end with painting.
